A literature review by Hebden et al. in Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition found an association between fruit consumption and a lower risk of weight gain over time. Another review by Bertoia et al. suggests that total fruit intake is associated with 0.53 fewer pounds per daily serving, berries are associated with 1.11 fewer pounds, and apples or pears are associated with 1.24 fewer pounds over 4 years. Adding fruit, especially apples and pears, may be an easy way to decrease weight over time.
