A 2024 meta-analysis by Chien et al. in the journal Nutrients found a limited association between increased water consumption and weight loss. However, they did find that substituting water for calorie-containing drinks was associated with weight loss.
Another 2024 review in JAMA Network Open by Hakam et al. found that more water intake was associated with greater weight loss and fewer kidney stones.
Finally, a 2025 paper by Davy et al. in the journal Physiology & Behavior showed an association between premeal water intake and weight loss over a 12-week study.
Remember to consult with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your water intake. Too much water can lead to hyponatremia and other serious health complications.
